My Favourite 12 photos of 2005

View all 12 photos...
The year 2005 is coming to an end. It is time we looked back and thought about what we have done in the past 12 months. It was quite hectic for me. On a personal note, moving to a newly completed house was one of the memorable one even though it definitely drained any available financial resources.

While photography-wise being involved in the setting up of a new photography forum LensaMalaysia is one of the event that is worth remembering - at least to me. Now LensaMalaysia has progressed steadily and we have many projects still in the pipeline.

Personally I dont achieve much in photography this year except for being accepted by Acclaim Images Photo Stock Agency as one of their contributing photographers.

However I just would like to share with you, dear reader, my favourite 12 photos for the whole of this year. Nothing so special and nothing great. It is just my way of trying to improve my photography by keeping the best 12 as recommended by Bazuki Muhammad - the REUTERS photographer

I hope next year will be a much more exciting and promising one.

Do enjoy viewing the photos as I enjoyed taking them. However I welcome all the criticism, comment and brickbats. Feel free to throw them at me.

BTW the photos are not in any particular order.

1. Serenity

2. A Dancing Cloud

3. Young Drummers

4. The Dayabumi Complex

5. This Way To KLCC

6. Bride Mannequin

7. It's Maghrib Time

8. Dome And Minaret

9. An Exhillirating Ride

10. Shopping For School Bag

11. A Tranquil Stream

12. Bride & Groom Dining

Selamat Pengantin Baru: Rafi + Sulastri – 11 Dec 2005

Rafi was married to Sulastri on 10.12.2005 and since they live not far from each other, the reception at Rafi's house was held the next day on 11.12.2005.

I covered Rafi's reception on 11.12.2005 at his house in Section 9, Shah Alam. The ceremony went on without any hiccups despite heavy rain towards the end of the event. The rain however didn't stop people from coming to give their blessings to the couple.

The colour theme chosen by Rafi was blue. Little wonder you see blue everywhere eh?

Congratulations to Rafi and Sulastri on your wedding. May your marriage be blessed with endless bliss and everlasting love.

And may you are blessed with many cute kids

On 8 Dec 2005 I rushed to KLIA to witness the arrival of the AirAsia’s spanking new Airbus A320. It was the first delivery of the Airbus from AirAsia’s order of 100 units. Wow the airlines impressively progresses at the neck-breaking speed from its very humble beginning. It was taken over by DRB-Hicom dying airlines of the same name by a couple of highly ambitious businessmen who had no clue of running any airlines company before led by Tony Fernandes (now Datuk). The rest as people say is history. AirAsia has won numerous awards locally as well as internationally for its prudent management and its practical way of operation which manages to lower the air fares and make flight accessible to practically everybody.

I reached KLIA at 2.00pm to photograph the arrival of the new Airbus A320 on the invitation by AirAsia’s CEO to I represented LensaMalaysia together with Steven Sun my fellow LensaMalaysia moderator. It was a colourful and joyful event and it was a memorable one for AirAsia management and staff as it was yet another achievement for them in strenghthening their position as the leading low-fare air carrier in the region.

On behalf of I would like to thank AirAsia management and staff for giving us the opportunity to join them in their eventful and memorable celebration and for allowing us to shoot their new beautiful machine. Many thanks also for their assistance and hospitality during preparation for the event.

Do enjoy the photos!

Zainal Abdul Halim - A REUTERS Photojournalist

In the recent years we see the mushrooming of photography enthusiasts and photojournalist wannabe thanks to the advent of digital photography. However as far as photography achievement in Malaysia is concerned only a handful made it big internationally.

One of them is Zainal Abdul Halim. He is a self-taught photographer who achieved success purely by learning on his own and by learning through mistake. And the mistake is worth it as his photos are now published by various newspapers and magazines worldwide. He shoots for wire news agency REUTERS - a dream job for most of us amateur photographers.

Read my interview with him which is divided into two parts in A Malaysian Photography Forum - LensaMalaysia. He may become your inspiration to achieve something meaningful in your photography pursuit.

To me Zainal is a proof that formal education in photography is not compulsory to go far in your photography journey but passion is.

Happy reading!
