Bukit Keluang Beach

While I had a short break at my hometown recently I went to shoot Bukit Keluang Beach which is about 18km from my parents' house.

The weather was not so favourable hence the lighting not glorious as what I expected. Anyway managed to bag a few shots of stormy and moody scenery.

You are welcome to view more of my pictures at My Portfolio hosted by pbase.com

Napie + Intan - Ijab Kabul

Congratulations to you, Napie and Intan and may God bless you with never ending bliss and everlastingly happy married life.

Napie and Intan were married on 17 July 2006 in Kelana Jaya where the ijab kabul ceremony took place. Intan is actually my sister-in-law whose elder sister, Nina, is my wifey.

I became an unofficial photographer, the task that I felt more comfortable to carry out considering numerous relatives present, from far and near, that I also had to meet and entertain. That is the best time where relatives can meet and catch up with each other latest news and development.

Anyway enjoy viewing the pictures from the eye of an unofficial photographer. The official photographer was my good friend Jaggat and the videoman Izwa.

Please feel free to view more pictures in my pbase gallery

The Bersanding pictures will follow later very soon.

Hi Zain.. I've just got back from Singapore myself. My niece got married and yes, I was also the unofficial photographer but like you , I had other responsibilities that day so I just grab a chance here and there. I didn't want to look like I was stepping on the official photographer's toes either so I was just using my built-in-flash Sun 3-Sep-2006 05:31

Congratulations to my brother Pizi and my sister-in-law Suraya on the birth of their new and the first son Muhammad Afiq Darwis. Afiq was born on 19 March 2006 but only recently I had the opportunity to meet my newborn nephew in Kuantan. Incidently Afiq was born exactly on the second birthday of my daughter Nur Batrishia Khadijah as well as on the third birthday of another cousin of his, Insyirah. Insyirah is my brother Nizam's daughter.

We can next time celebrate birthday on the same day for our 3 children! hehehe What a coincidene!

Thanx bro.It was really nice shots.. Mon 26-Jun-2006 17:31

My Mosque Photo in DCM

My mosque photo was published in Digital Camera Magazine - Malaysian Version, June 2006 issue under Hotshots Section. Although it doesn't qualify to be the best shot of the month and I am not paid for the publication of this photo, having my work selected to be published has already made my day for an amateur photographer like me.

My good friend Ted might not agree with me. He is a pro anyway and I am talking about amateur photographer.

:like me.

End Quote.

Au contraire my dear fried Master Zain, A reward may not be monetary nor materialistic, a recognition within one own circle and perhaps and oppurtunity to expand one own horizon is sometimes far far more rewarding.

Being published is a recognition, one should be very proud with that. At the same time tho, the pursuit of excellence and betterment (sic) of one own achievement is a never ending quest.

A 'Kongratulasi' is definitely in order.

On a technical note, magenta sky is due to faulty processing by the colour lab. Like what posted in other forums, some technicians in sone colour lab in KL is positive proof that Aliens has landed on Earth.

Thanks my Ted for your lengthy comments, observation and words of encouragement. A word of encouragement coming from someone well known in a photographic fraternity like you is something meaningful. Technical-wise yes the sky looks magenta-biased perhaps what you say about the colour processing lab in KL is true. We still have long way to go to match the superb quality of prints like what we always admire in N. Geographic or Practical Photography Mags.

Anyway please feel free to look at the original picture here

Riot of Colours II

Vibrant, striking and fiery colours have always been inspiration to many photographers since the inception of colour photography many years ago. Through colours we can communicate various ideas and expression to our viewers. Red always denotes passion and bravery while green is always associated with serenity, peacefulness and the colour of nature. Blue means coolness as it is always associated with water.

In modern photography of our time, when talking about vibrant and bold colours as well as interesting colour coordination the photographer that will come to mind is Pete Turner who is world famous for his bold colour works especially in presenting many ordinary things that just pass off in front of us unnoticed. While Eric Meola who is said to be Pete Turner's protege is another photographer fond of bold and vibrant colours whose juxtaposition and color coordination is spellbinding. At home we have Arthur Teng who won various awards overseas and locally and has published many books to his name yet he still remains amateur. Take a look at his inspiring works here which are all fresh images.

Colours to a black and white photographer are distracting but to a great colour photographers like Pete Turner, Eric Meola and Arthur Teng colours are inspirational.

Take a look at my humble colour photos below inspired especially by those masters.

Happy snapping!!!

The Twin Towers at Night

Many times I was told by photography sifus that when taking pictures of buildings and landscape at night, take it only when the sky still retains some colours normally deep blue. The time is approximately between 7.30pm (Maghrib Prayer Time) and 8.30pm (Isyak Prayer time) because after which the sky would go totally pitch dark and without any details - just black.

So the sky is uninteresting. One photography expert recommends another technique that is shoot double exposure - one when the sky still retains interesting colour but not dark enough and most building lights are still off and another exposure when the sky has gone totally dark with all the building lights on. Hmm that reminds myself I should give it a try some time as I myself havent tried that although I read about it some time ago.

Anyway although the sky has gone totally dark in these 2 pictures I kinda like the meandering curves formed by the light trails on the road and it acts as a foreground interest to the Petronas Twin Towers at the background. Kinda fresh perspective (at least to me). Taken from Sheraton Imperial Hotel, KL a couple of weeks ago.

Too bright. The details are lost. Mon 3-Apr-2006 12:49

Double exposure?

too risky, lest u'll get overlapping image that didnt register with each other.

Best to shoot at dusk, starts from 5 minutes before sundown till 15 minutes after the sun has set
